The birds may have flown south for the winter and the bears may be in hibernation, but that doesn’t mean you need to put your home search on ice til spring. In fact, winter can actually be one of the best times to buy a home. Keep reading to find out three reasons why winter is a good time to buy a home.
You REALLY get to know a home
Ever bought (or rented) a home in summer, only to find out the driveway is practically impossible in the winter or the heater smells like burnt plastic? Hopefully not, but these are very real things that sometimes can be hidden under the guise of nice weather. Put simply, you get to see how the property performs in less-than-ideal conditions.
Beat the buyer competition
Let’s start with a disclaimer: 2022 is shaping up to be another hot, hot, hot real estate market – and it’s not likely to cool off anytime soon. With inventory remaining low and the threat of an interest rate hike on the horizon, every day not spent searching, is a day wasted. And besides, if you start now, you’re that much further ahead than your fair weathered competition.

It’s easier to hire movers (and related services)
When you’re house hunting, it can be easy to forget about what happens after you actually close. In the summer, movers are slammed. Everyone is trying to get it done before the kids go back to school, so by moving in the winter or spring, you increase the odds of finding a vendor that fits your taste and budget.
What to do next
If you were previously looking for a home but gave up because of market conditions, don’t get discouraged. Though the housing market is showing no signs of slowing, ‘waiting it out’ may not be the solution. Got questions about what I think is going to happen next or how to win in a market like this one?
